Show Up Even When It’s Difficult, This is Your Season

It’s a difficult ride to try to get through this content creation journey but I tell you it has been pretty fulfilling since starting. I’ve been at this thing for a little more than a year and half, yet it seems like I just started all over again this past January when I started going through Think Media’s Video Ranking Academy course. Are there any evident results from taking the course? Yes there has. There has been more views, more engagement and most importantly, there is more of a community starting to present itself in the form of individuals who reach out to me who are also interested in photography and videography.

Despite there being such stress on algorithms changing, one thing is for sure, just as a fellow creator Bea Chu says, “You’re creating content for people, not algorithms.” This was profoundly sobering to me as it reminds me of when Think Media’s Sean Cannell asked, “What are the first fifteen videos that your audience needs? After you write those video ideas down, go make them!”

As I’m writing this, I’m not at 1,000 subscribers, but am I stressed about it? Not so much. Why? Because I’m still going to create content whether or not I have a thousand or I have a million. What kind of content I make may change, but the content creation is a constant. The one thing that I would continue to do even if I wasn’t paid for it is taking photos and making videos. Each week when I show up to create, I am getting better, not just by repetition but by purposeful and methodical implementation of things that I learn from the internet, books, wherever! You can take as many courses as you want from your favorite artists and online content creators, but unless you actually implement them on your own, it’s all useless. There are things that one will learn from implementing, dealing with challenges in a first person perspective compared to the limited knowledge that an educator could share with you in a 10 minute Youtube video.

Life gets in the way, but even when it does, stick to your guns, in the case, it’s the systems that you have in place to make it easier for you to get the job done. It’s give up when we don’t see a way, have a method, have a channel for us to give more of our all. Show up, take the next most important step for you to keep going. Difficulty is a question asking you how much you care about the things in your life and how important they are. For me, in my singleness, pre-married life, pre-parenthood I know that I am in the season to create week to week and I’m showing up to help others who are ready to capture their beautiful lives and shoot for the life that matters to them.

What are you shooting for?
