It’s Not Just About Views, It’s Service

What kind of things do know now that you wish you could tell your younger self? Whether you impart wisdom from 10 years ago, 5 years ago, even 2 years ago, you can significant shorten a learning curve for many people. Some of the wisdom can be simple or it can be super specific and niche. This is one of the many great lessons that I learned from Think Media’s Video Ranking Academy.

In one of their free masterclass sessions, they share how to grow your Youtube channel up to 1000 subscribers. The two methods that I just started implementing from their class are teaching a specific skill and answering a specific question. I have been applying this to the photo and video niche and compared to the personal videos that I was making about myself, these kinds of videos are giving me more views, but most importantly, they’re making a greater impact.

With more reach comes more potential impact, this is especially evident through the comment section with follow up questions and even a hearty thanks. Think Media is a company built upon Christian values where they are led by a Christ-inspired leadership style, a servant-based leadership. As Jesus came to serve instead of being served, Think Media aims to serve people who want to grow their online business through video and to ultimately help produce 10,000 full-time Youtube entrepreneurs.

I used to think that being on Youtube was all about me and that I was going to wow the world. However, I learned real fast that no one really cares about what I have to say, what I have to offer, and this is especially if it is all about me. There is nothing wrong about me creating stuff and putting it on the internet, but my intention and purpose is to make a bigger impact on the world, let alone a community, then I have to change the way that I create and share online.

As young as I am at the age of nearly 30, I’ve still got much to learn, still much imposter syndrome to battle through, but one thing is for sure is that I’ve put in work into things I’m passionate about. Photography and video is amongst those things that I am most passionate about despite being a full-time nurse. All the wisdom and experience that I’ve gained through the years, no matter how small or how complicated is still worth imparting to the future “me", the future generation of people who are yet to discover their own love and desire for photo and video.

Youtube definitely isn’t a get rich quick scheme, it’ll be evident from all the individuals who start and soon stop. It’s a long game, a long-term service, it’s a channel of impact. In the end, what good do you want to leave behind in this world? Will you stay and work long enough to see that impact happen?
