Accessories for your A6400 / A6600

Got a new Sony a6000 (or 6100, 6300, 6400, or 6500) series camera and are looking to add some more functionality out of it? Here are top 10 accessories you’ll want to get ( and in no particular order).

A Thick Screen Protector

Whether you get a proprietary screen protector or a third-party from Amazon, keep your screen free from scratches with a tempered glass screen protector. I highly recommend against paper material screen protector, always go for tempered glass.

Extra batteries for all day shooting

If you are not blessed with the Sony a6600, your batteries much shorter longevity if you plan on shooting all day, especially if you’re shooting 4K video. You don’t need to go crazy with four more pairs of batteries, but even one pair of batteries should be sufficient. Fortunately the Sony a6000 cameras are compatible with third-party batteries so you don’t need to fork up the premium price for the original.

Camera Strap suitable to your style

I shoot photos and videos, but often when I switch over to video, the camera strap gets in the way. However, there are also days when I only shoot photo and use the camera strap all day. Rather than struggling with the loops and ties of the Sony camera strap, I’ve switched over to the Peak Design camera strap for easy on and easy off.

Camera Cage for protection and more functionality

If you’re a serious video shooter or at least dipping your toes into that world, you’ll benefit from all these attachment points on this thing. You could make it so that you can attach monitors, handles, a power bank and much more. This is just your starting point. Even if you don’t get this particular one, there are even half or even partial cages styles out there. Even a grip extender.

External Microphone and Wind Muffle / Lavalier Microphone

Although you can get away with the on-board camera microphone, the next level to your camera life, especially in video, is audio. Better audio adds more value to your video more than you think. An alternative to this kind of microphone is a lavalier (you can also use your phone and phone headset on a “free” budget) for vloggers.

Extra Memory and Case

64 GB should have you covered with most of your every day shooting, but once you start adding videos to that mix, you’ll have more security having a 128 GB. You could also have two 64 GB, but I rather have two 128 GB if you value shooting photo AND video often. I also love and recommend a water proof housing for your SD cards.

A Better Camera Bag

You won’t need an expensive camera bag to keep going, but if that adventurous side of you is part of the reason why you capture and create with a camera, a camera bag to compliment your lifestyle and protect and house your tools is a wise investment. I often look for camera bags that are weather resistant, or have a rain fly covering, are modular or fit modular cubes, fit a tripod, and, because I overpack or carry heavy stuff, a waist strap.

Mini-Tripod

If you’re into that vlogging life and filming yourself while valuing being discreet with a small form factor, this is a no brainer. Otherwise you’ll want a bigger and solid tripod to keep your camera steady.

Power Bank

Charge your extra batteries on the go or operate your camera with your power bank plugged in (like the a6400).

Capture Card and USB Connector

Looking for a better webcam for your zoom calls? Look no further, use the camera that you already have. With this accessory you can choose this as your video input for your video calls on your computer without breaking the bank.
